So funny. I just got a 1957 Simplicity Sewing Book this weekend that has a special section on pattern alterations for Chubbies. It must have been a pretty common term. : )
Okay, that's WAY more obnoxious than Bust 32 patterns being advertised as "slimming." Nobody with a 32 bust needs to look slimmer.

Yes, the word chubbies has been used for larger girls for a long time. In the late 1940's and early '50's there was even a line of dresses with a name like "chubettes." The only complaint that I remember hearing was that the brand was hard to find.
There's a whole 1950's pattern line called CHUB DEB (!!) How, way to make a girl feel special.
